SubSorter Privacy Policy
Last updated: 21 September 2026
SubSorter is an Android app that sorts your YouTube subscriptions into categories you choose and shows their new videos by topic. It is made by EMET AI ("we", "us"). This policy explains what the app does with information about you.
The short version
There is no account and no sign-in. SubSorter never asks for your Google password.
Everything you create in SubSorter is stored only on your phone.
SubSorter sends nothing to us. We run no server and receive none of your subscriptions, categories or viewing habits.
SubSorter has no advertising, no analytics and no tracking.
To show new videos, your phone asks YouTube for public information directly, so Google can see which channels your phone checks.
Payments are handled by Google Play. We never see your card details.
What SubSorter keeps on your phone
All of the following is stored in the app's private storage on your phone, which other apps cannot read:
Your subscription list: each channel's name, web address and YouTube channel ID, read from the Google Takeout file you choose to open.
Your sorting: the categories you create, which channel is in which category, and which channels you have starred.
How often you watched each subscribed channel, only if the Takeout file you open includes your watch history. SubSorter keeps one number per subscribed channel. It does not keep which videos you watched, when you watched them, or anything about channels you are not subscribed to.
Recent videos from your subscribed channels: each video's title, ID and publication time, taken from YouTube's public feeds. Videos older than 60 days are deleted automatically.
Channel pictures and video thumbnails, and the web addresses they come from, cached so they do not have to be downloaded again.
AI results: for each channel, a list of numbers the on-device AI calculated from the channel's name and recent video titles (see "On-device AI" below).
Settings, such as the time range shown, theme, sound effects and reduced motion.
Trial and licence status: the time the free trial started and was last checked, and whether a lifetime licence has been bought.
SubSorter reads the Takeout file only while importing it. It does not copy or keep the file.
SubSorter's data is excluded from Android's backup to Google Drive. If you move to a new phone using Android's direct phone-to-phone transfer, Android may copy it across.
What SubSorter sends over the internet
SubSorter talks only to Google services, directly from your phone, over encrypted (HTTPS) connections:
YouTube (www.youtube.com): to fetch each subscribed channel's public feed of recent videos, and each channel's public page to find its picture.
YouTube's image servers (such as i.ytimg.com): to load video thumbnails and channel pictures.
Google Play: to check, restore and make purchases (see "Purchases" below).
Like any website, Google receives your phone's internet (IP) address and technical details of each request, and can see which channels and images your phone asks for. Google handles this under the Google Privacy Policy. SubSorter does not send Google your categories, stars, watch counts, or anything else stored in the app.
When you choose to open a video, a channel or Google Takeout, SubSorter hands you over to the YouTube app or your web browser, and Google's own terms and privacy policy apply there.
On-device AI
SubSorter can suggest a category for each channel using an AI model (Google's EmbeddingGemma) that is built into the app and runs entirely on your phone. It reads channel names and recent video titles that are already on your phone and turns them into numbers used to compare channels. None of this is sent anywhere; the AI works without an internet connection.
Purchases and optional support payments
SubSorter offers a free trial, a one-time lifetime licence, and optional payments to support the developer, which unlock nothing. All of them are processed by Google Play under Google's terms and the Google Privacy Policy.
We never receive your card or bank details.
The app receives purchase status information from Google Play so that it can unlock and restore your licence, and keeps a note on your phone that the licence is active.
Google Play gives us order records for purchases, such as an order number, the item, date, price and country. We use these only for accounting, tax, refunds and answering your questions.
Google Play's billing component, which is built into the app, may also send Google technical information about purchases and errors so that Google can process payments. Google handles this under the Google Privacy Policy, and we do not receive it.
What SubSorter does not do
No account, sign-in or registration.
No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
No analytics, usage tracking or crash reporting by us.
No location, contacts, camera, microphone or photos.
No selling, renting or sharing of your information with anyone. We have none of it to share.
Backup files
You can export a backup file from SubSorter's settings. It contains your channel list, categories, sorting, watch counts, AI results and settings. It does not contain payment information. SubSorter saves it only where you choose and never uploads it. The file is not encrypted, so keep it somewhere you trust. If you save it to a cloud storage service, that service's terms apply.
How long information is kept, and how to delete it
Information on your phone stays until you delete it. Video information older than 60 days is removed automatically.
To delete everything SubSorter stores, uninstall the app, or open Android Settings → Apps → SubSorter → Storage → Clear data.
Backup files you exported stay where you saved them until you delete them.
Google Play's order records are kept by us for as long as accounting and tax law requires.
Age
SubSorter is for people aged 13 and over, the same minimum age as YouTube, and it is not directed at children under 13. The app collects no information about anyone, of any age. We do not knowingly receive information about children under 13; if you believe a child has sent us information, for example by email, contact us and we will delete it. If you are under 18, please ask a parent or guardian before making any purchase.
Security
SubSorter keeps its data in Android's private app storage and uses encrypted connections for everything it downloads. No method of storage or transmission is perfectly secure, but because your data never leaves your phone for our systems, there is nothing about you on our side to be leaked.
Your rights
Because your SubSorter data exists only on your phone, you can see, change, export and delete all of it yourself, at any time, from within the app or Android's settings. For questions about purchase records we hold, or any other privacy question, contact us below. You may also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes to this policy
If SubSorter's handling of information changes, we will update this page and the date at the top before the change reaches the app.
